Teens in Action

The Teens In Action program is built on Camp Fire USA’s long tradition of recognizing youth as part of the solution to, and not the problem with, today’s social challenges. Working together with young people, Teens In Action strives to improve the communities where youth live, to challenge youth to learn new skills and provide leadership in areas they never thought possible. Programs of this nature inspire and honor community responsibility, contribute to the future of America’s volunteerism and encourage a sense of caring for others.

The principles of Teens in Action are based on youth-adult partnerships and learning through empowering experiences. Its intent is to build strong ties between the teens and their families, schools and communites, and put a spotlight on issues of concern to youth. This program is based on the concept that young people are the key to the future and are making a difference in the world.

In Teens in Action, young people can have fun, relax with their friends, work with caring adults, and at the same time stand up for something they believe in. They exchange ideas, discuss issues, determine community needs, develop strategies to address them and participate in decisions that govern the organization. Teens in Action groups research and select service-learning challenges they wish to tackle. Individuals are also encouraged to identify personal quests and create their own action plans for mastering them.
Camp Fire USA has always been in the forefront of addressing the most pressing issues facing teens today. Through Teens in Action, teens develop confidence and leadership skills as they plan and implement community service projects and challenge themselves to master new skills and situations.

Teens may also earn credit toward graduation requirements through service learning hours.
