No single career path is right for everyone.  Every individual has different skills, interests, values and goals and each career and development plan must take these differences into account. To help youth succeed, Camp Fire USA’s Career Prep programs gives students an opportunity to understand their aptitude and interests and teach them how to use this knowledge in preparing for the work force. Students who go through the Career Prep program chart a course by which they can begin the steps necessary to realize their vocational/professional goals. By developing a career plan now, youth are more likely to have a fulfilling career in the future.

Program Information:

  • The vision of the Career prep program is to provide youth opportunities to explore future career paths by implementing a series of career exploratory sessions which will culminate in a school-wide career fair coordinated through cooperation of school personnel and community professionals.
  • Students participate in interest and aptitude surveys and receive individually customized print-outs. These print-outs detail the occupations’ educational and training requirements, average starting salary and number of annual openings.
  • The program is designed for 5th - 12th Grade students.

*This program emphasizes the first value of WoHeLo, Camp Fire’s watchword.   WoHeLo stands for Work, Health and Love.

Program Emphasis:

Youth Employment programs provide youth with the opportunity to explore their fields of interest, their strengths and aptitudes and their realistic options. These programs also instill work ethic and responsible habits vital to future job success.   Statistics, and our experience, tell us that it is not unusual for children and youth to reach young adulthood unsure of their life’s vocation. Through the Career Prep program, Camp Fire is helping those children and youth answer questions about their future and build workable plans to achieve their goals.

“What will I be when I grow up?”

Camp Fire’s Career Prep program provides young people with the opportunity to gather knowledge about their abilities and interests, and teaches them how to transform those interests into a job or career. The latest cutting-edge career counseling materials are presented. Detailed career printouts are obtained based on the students’ interests, and a path is charted that they may follow.

“What kind of skills will I need?”
By continually keeping abreast of the ever-changing job market, the Camp Fire USA Career Prep program realistically prepares today’s youth for the decisions they will need to make in order to become successful adults.

“What kind of education is required?”

While we do emphasize continuing the education process, we make students aware that the job market is requiring more and more skills. Technical training can be just as important as academic pursuit. By making students begin to think about their future at a young age, this program helps shape tomorrow’s work-force.
