Mission Statement

The Department of Child Abuse Prevention, (DCAP) secures resources to fund evidence-based community programs committed to the prevention of child maltreatment. We advocate for children and the strengthening of families.

• I'm Safe and Sure Teaches Kindergartner's and first-graders how to protect themselves and prevent dangerous situations. It gives children the understanding of the importance of following rules, getting permission from caregivers and talking to trusted adults about dangerous situations. The program also increases awareness of how our feelings can be a warning and the importance of heeding internal warnings.

Camp Fire USA recognizes that children may face emergency situations or danger when an adult is not present. This could be at home, at a friend’s house, on the way to school or even at a shopping mall.

Providing children with basic information can prevent them from getting into dangerous situations and becoming tomorrow’s victims. There is a real need for continued education to help our children protect themselves.

Prevent Child Abuse Alabama

The Department of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention is the Alabama chapter for Prevent Child Abuse America, which was established May 18, 2007.  The Department of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention and Prevent Child Abuse America share the common mission to prevent child abuse and neglect before it occurs.  PCA Alabama and the Department of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention also share the same focus on the prevention of child abuse and neglect in many of the activities they support and implement –

Child Abuse Prevention Month activities

In prevention and early intervention services, collaboration is essential to maximize effective use of resources and eliminating duplication of efforts.  The collaboration with the Department of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention provides PCA Alabama with a means to share information on educational initiatives and community involvement to bring increased awareness to the prevention of child abuse and neglect for the children in Alabama.
